Groundhog Day

The air is crisp but the golden rays seeping through my office window this morning feel magnificent.  I can’t help but think summer is right around the corner.  That is until I heard the news.  With the mild winter we’ve had thus far in western, Pennsylvania, I just wasn’t expecting it.  Without a doubt the kids are ecstatic. Me, not so much!  I’m sure by now you’ve heard the news, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow which means six more weeks of winter here in Lincoln Township.

Despite the frigid temperatures there truly are plenty of activities and events to partake in during the winter months.  So much to be grateful for.  For me, when I think about the beginning of February, so many thoughts rush through my head...

The start of Income Tax prep - am I ready?

Hockey Season for my kids - when are their games?

Valentine’s Day - do we have treats for classmates?

Chocolate covered strawberries - I LOVE when I get surprised with homemade treats from the kids!

Sled Riding and Snow Plowing - are the snow clothes dry?

Hitting the slopes for skiing - does everyone have extra gloves and a hat?

Superbowl – invites, party décor and snacks!

Maple sap running - are the taps out and is my son Henry ready to start boiling?

And of course, I can’t forget about, property taxes.

Generating street light bills, new sales need tracked, payment processors, escrow payers; these are just a few of the many tasks that I fulfill as the Tax Collector.  The new technological service that is now available is one aspect that I’m particularly looking forward to and I hope you are too!  I’m assuming if you’re reading this, you’ve already checked out our website, www.lincolntownshiptax.com.  Did you see you can make requests right on the website? And we’re now taking electronic payments beginning in 2023!

This year marks my 2nd year of collecting property taxes here in Lincoln Township.  Getting here has been a long road, with various bumps along the way, but many of the stops were beneficial in some way or another.  I may not have realized it then, but now reflecting on the past year, everything happens for a reason.  I have gained more knowledge and greater understanding from each situation I encounter.

So, as we turn the corner into the 2023 property tax time, I want to thank you for the grace you’ve given last year.  Not only am I able to match names to faces for so many property owners, I enjoy getting to know everyone in the community.  I without a doubt had big shoes to fill when I was appointed Tax Collector in January of last year.  Born and raised here in Lincoln Township, it brings me great pleasure to serve our community.

Looking ahead to next month, I encourage you to check out the website, send me an email, and/or even try out the electronic payment processing. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give me a call.
